The Students of Science have been nearing completion of their yet-to-be titled debut, chock full of laboratory oddities and surprises, and is due out in the spring of '09. The project is between an EP and LP at this point, and the last of the sessions will be completed this month at LeRoy Brown's Annex Room studio.

Abdias Garcia has been preparing his solo project for release, which is due out by mid-late '09, as well as working the breaks (under the pseudonym Ed Diaz) with Crates Anatomy, Tripleta, and all of the other spinoff projects between AG and the Research crew.... we've even heard the possibility of an AG / LRB collaboration for this year, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. We'll keep you posted as this rumor develops.

As far as the spinoffs are concerned, The Tripleta Sessions went down at Full Sail as part of their Artist Series on Jan. 5, 2009. This one night occasion left the group with two new sessions to take back to the lab for mixing and will be released as an A / B single in the coming months.

Two weeks later, AG and the boys were down at Roho Cafe to do a few sets for the Art Walk series in downtown Orlando. The Roho set was followed by the 2nd installment of Good Look (Bikkuri Lounge) with Crates Anatomy, Stereo 77, and DJ Excel from Philadelphia

The Caltones have gone through some ups and downs trying to get the tracking schedule and location together for their new album, running through numerous studios and gear choices and have recently settled on the locale for tracking, which will begin in the coming weeks. We'll be sure to keep you posted on that as well.

Last but not least, we bring you the Crates Anatomy news. The group has scaled back on live performances over the last 3 months in order to sift through their 50+ hours of live shows from the summer of 2008, which will be used on an upcoming live compilation album. Session have also been in progress for their "world-flavored" ep, which will include distinct, regionally influenced selections from around the globe.... all set to the rhythm of a break.

A track from each of the upcoming releases as well as the rest of the roster will be featured on the Raw DLX compilation, the front runner for the 2009 release schedule. The compilation will be finalized and released in the next 2 months, so stay tuned for that.
Crates Anatomy closed out November with a live breaks session at Ceviche (125 W. Church St. Orlando, FL) and found some time to shoot a little video for some of their upcoming projects. The following week (Dec.1)
Crates were also scheduled to play a set on 91.5 WPRK (Winter Park, FL) for Stereo 77's "Filtered Sunshine" program (Mondays from 11pm-1am on 91.5 WPRK or WPRKDJ.org) but due to scheduling conflict, the crew was unable to perform.
On Thursday of that week (Dec. 4) LeRoy Brown and Paul Phonik were Fly by Night over at Tatame (223 W. Fairbanks Ave. Winter Park, FL) and got down with a hip hop, breaks, and electro set from 10pm-1am, with a little help from some of their lab tools and tricks.
PL Phonik of the Research roster will be performing during the 2nd week of December, for the opening of the Breaks Brunch at 310 Lakeside (First Sunday of every monh at 301 E Pine St. Orlando, FL.)

The rest of the crew will be preparing for the final weeks of 2008, with a Crates Anatomy show at the brand new Good Look monthly, as well as a Caltones performance at Blow! sundays, for the Blow! Allstar month.
The last feature for December is the Students of Science. They will be wrapping up recording during December and early January for their yet to be titled album, and preparing the video work for their first single, which is sure to be a fresh one.

Stay Tuned for next month's installment, as we will be bringing you the Caltones recording updates (their new album is scheduled for tracking during January 2009.)

LeRoy Brown has recently finished mastering his beat opus known as theLRBeatsuite. This project has seen many ups and downs since its conception in the fall of 2006, but will finally make its way out for distribution. The sessions were compiled from recordings done between 2004 and 2007, until its completion in March of 2007, and features guest appearances from Abdias Garcia and Lee Ritter (on bass and guitar accompaniment,) with Brendan Cusker assisting on recording and mixing tasks.
theLRBeatsuite will available worldwide in early 2009, through Itunes (along with its world partner sites) Amazon.com, Emusic, Napster, Rhapsody, Best Buy, Circuit City (digital download only) Verizon Vcast, AT&T mobile, and many, many more.

October has been a busy month over at Research Deluxe. It started off with the monthly Crates Anatomy appearance on 91.5 WPRK (wprkdj.org), performing their live breaks set every first monday of the month, alongside hosts Stereo 77 and ThinkDifferent.
The following day, Crates headed over to Ceviche (125 W. Church St. Orlando, FL) for their weekly residency fulfillment, rocking anything from afrobeat to breakbeats to hip hop to funk , and then all the way out to some far experimental realms... ending it all at 1am.
Later that week (October 9, 2008) LeRoy Brown had a busy day, engineering throughout the day, then meeting up with The Caltones for an early evening set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Winter Park Terrace Starbucks location, playing a quick 30 minute set, and then packing up and heading over to the Tatame Lounge (223 W. Fairbanks Ave. Orlando, FL) for a monthly set with Doug Therow and The Crates DJ's, playing anything and everything (of the utmost freshness) from 10pm-1am.

The following days were spent gathering the recorded sessions from each night, shipping them to the studio, and sifting through all of the work that had been.

The following week was marked with a bit of a downer, as Crates Anatomy closed down their Tuesday night residency at Ceviche, recording their final set in its entirety, with Brendan Cusker on engineering duties.
